rng is the morning/noon/evening/night, and you get... morning! merry christmas!
he doesn't seem particularly bothered by the snow or the chill, walking with his arms folded behind his back neatly as usual while he investigates the neighborhood and its stalls. his tail settles between his jacket tails easily, flicking occasionally and staying just raised enough to avoid dragging in the snow. ]
How festive. [ kind of wry about it, considering the weekend they had. but he's not a debbie downer. when he sees her making her way along, he unfolds one hand and raises it in greeting. ] I believe this is a holiday of giftgiving... are you familiar with it, Elysia?
elysia's skin looks crystallized now and then when the light hits it and like it's petal soft in other light. she's not the most festive person ever, but she does enjoy holiday cheer. ]
Yeah, although there are slight differences between countries, but the central thing is the joy of giving gifts to those you love.
[ everyone last week had fit checks when they gave me starters i had to find them. ]
Interesting. There are a few celebrations in Liyue that have the same tone, but not with all of... [ a gesture towards the tree, the bows, the (omo voice) me ribbons. all the tinsel and lights and whatnot. ] It does seem at least that there's more for us to "buy," so to speak, than what was at the screen shop. Have you seen the market?
[ it's fine... it's fine... age is but a number, and their years were spent differently. she takes his arm happily because why would she refuse from someone like zhongli? ]
Tell me about a celebration or festival that fills you with fondness.
Oh, that would be quite easy - Lantern Rite is one that the people of Teyvat will travel across the other nations for. It was originally meant to be a message to soldiers, to show them the way home and remind them that there was a home to return to, that they were missed and treasured, by lighting lanterns and casting them into the sky.
[ a little wistful, but he's still got a smile on his face as they talk and walk. ]
Nowadays, it's a celebration to usher in the new year and to remember those that we lost. Every year, a fallen hero from Liyue past is chosen to be the dedication of our Mingxiao Lantern, the largest lantern that is fashioned in their likeness or a representation of them. I've no input into the selection, so it's always good to see my old comrades be remembered for who they were and what we lost in their sacrifices, but also to celebrate them for what we gained and what their lives were dedicated to.
Both, perhaps. I saw the lanterns myself, during the war, but now I see them as a resident and not a warrior. [ bittersweet to have those losses, but sweet nostalgia for those that were lost. ]
It's good to see them as a sign of peacetime and remembrance, celebration, nowadays. And the main festivities take place on Liyue Harbor, so the sky becomes a mirror of lanterns - it's magnificent.
[ WHY ARE SO MANY CHILDREN OUT HERE SLEEPING WHERE THEY SHOULDN'T BE?
zhongli pauses, seeing a small child out here like this. he doesn't want to disturb her? it might spook her, and he can't have that. but he doesn't want the jabberwock to show up and harm her, so he makes his way slowly and carefully over. ]
[ unfortunately, zhongli has no interest in going to the fairgrounds right away to see what's different. so we don't get to enjoy baby animals today. :( instead, he's standing at the top of the hill that the lighthouse sits on, living side, and regards the axolotl depicted in the stained glass from outside. just sort of... taking things in.
his emotions feel like they come a little distantly, but still powerfully genuine. so elysia will get a very calm, contemplative energy. ]
Interesting how things are so different, yet so similar, isn't it? [ looking her way. ] How are you fairing, Elysia?
[ it's probably no surprise, but elysia's default emotion is love, pristine and sincere. ]
I'm fine. I just finished writing a bunch of letters. I hope they make it over okay. If this place was meant to be connected to the others, it makes sense that there would be similarities.
Maybe it's something about how that connection got disrupted?
[ he can't say he's surprised - she's just so vibrant and full of love. it makes his emotions, mild as they are, settle into something warm, welcoming. ]
Mm, I'd been writing some of my own, but only sent a few. I want to see just want makes it through and what doesn't, if they reach their intended recipients. [ since kiraman had to do a code, he wants to see if they'll have to, as well, or not. ]
After that explanation, yesterday... possibly so. A bit of a displacement and delay? [ they got the forest this week when the two of them had had it last week, living side. ]
That's a smart way of going about it. I just wrote a number of letters with less thought aand I'll probably write more. Even if they don't reach who I want them to, it's still nice to go through the gesture.
[ at least for her. ]
That's what I was thinking. We have some things that don't match and some new buildings in general, so it'd match with what was aid.
I agree - and I hope that it offers some reassurances for our friends on the other side. I'd like to see what we can send to them, when it comes to the packages, but I suppose it will depend on how they are delivered...
[ thinks of the soggy smoothies in scawwy... ]
I know that the Autumn Alley was inspired by something from the Xianzhou Alliance, as well, so it is interesting that we might have influence over our surroundings, given that. We could very well build upon this side of Heaven while we are here.
We'll find out soon. Or at least... we can figure out if there's any kind of delay.
[ there may be no pattern oocly, but icly, they can try to think about it. ]
You think it's Jing Yuan's influence? I was wondering if that horse ranch was because of Adolphe, too. If it is influenced by us... it could be much more like heaven that way.
[ what a weekend... zhongli looks up from his phone and the journal that he has, writing down the town hall most important notes so that they can have them handy. he has to make copies at some point with neverah.
his calm has returned, if pensive and well-deep, now, as opposed to a toss down the hall. ]
Elysia. [ clickies his motivational pen thoughtfully. ] It is. The messages that they're sending, when combined, are a bit foreboding... but that they're doing any of this, it means that they can be caught when they make a mistake.
Were you thinking it immature, as well? [ because that's really what it pangs of. ] Something that might reveal their location, truthfully. But we haven't seen any of our incoming mail tampered with, at least as far as I know, so I wonder if they are more close to us than the other side.
Trying to get a rise out of us, or lord their position above us.
[ which means they'll slip up, he hopes.
but he considers that thoughtfully, sitting back a bit, mulling. he's wiser than he was when he was younger, but he's still not necessarily The Brain. ]
Perhaps... the lack of affliction and temptation here would point more towards distance, wouldn't it. That could mean that it can't reach us here for some reason.

It must be such sweet nostalgia. Or maybe... bittersweet? But any event that's for remembrance is something I love for how heartfelt it can be.

Nor have I. I've only seen them dance to singing, not do the singing, themselves. Were they kind to you, singing you a lullaby?
