[The restless roaming is so real tonight, so many people are just out here restlessly roaming. What a mood. His head dips a little in agreement, and he gestures to the seat beside him.]
Would you like to sit? [Join him in the gazebo of exhaustion. There's a little beat at the question, though.]
...I believe I'm faring as well as can be expected, given everything. Today was... difficult, toward the end, for many.
Each loss will become more difficult to endure... But with a group like this, I suspect most will find it impossible to withdraw for self-protection.
[Which just means people are going to be hurt worse and worse, and the rest of them will be left helpless in the face of knowing exactly what to do to soothe those hurts when they themselves are struggling, and there's not much to be done either way.
Mm, I believe much the same. We have such empathetic, heartfelt people among us, such that there are many I believe would be unable to come back from voting for and condemning an innocent person.
[ how many would have fallen apart if yves had gotten majority vote? how many would be in irreparable pain, no matter what those who have remained steady could offer them as balm?
so many of them are already hurt from voting for the afflicted culprits. for having to lose them the following day.
we hit the great depression and it's only week 2. ]
[IT IS TRULY DIRE OUT HERE AND IT'S ONLY WEEK 2. This is fine. They're all doing fine. He tries not to think too hard about the potential scenario in which they vote incorrectly and have to shoulder that loss. To not only vote to expel someone, but for one of their own to then have to dispatch that person? Miserable.
He takes a breath in and sighs it out slow, lacing his fingers together. Grounding himself.]
...I will pray that such a future can be avoided. At the very least, it seems we're being given as many tools as possible to help.
[ shifting where he's seated, he touches their arms together - lucas is short enough compared to him that it's not shoulder to shoulder, but he doesn't miss the way that he laces his fingers like that. he's done similar before.
especially here. especially dwelling on their reality, and what could have been, if things shifted, just so.
every day he's grateful to be the only one from teyvat. ]
I'm grateful, for those tools. Laurence's whistle helped us be able to walk away from the suspicions cast on Yves, so that we might focus on the rest, to find Miss Neverah.
A second or two passes, and Lucas just leans gently against him. Just a little, just for that tiny touch of closeness and contact that helps to ground after emotions flow so wildly from so many people in such a small space, over a small span of time. My god.]
Laurence undoubtedly saved Yves' life tonight. There is ultimately very little that I could have done.
[Because they all know by now how it looks, when someone close to a person desperately speaks up in their favor. He can't even argue with the logic when he's certain he would defend Yves even if condemnation were cast upon him more heavily still.
He's quiet for a few beats after that.]
...The trials are meant to end after death. The pure go to Heaven to enjoy eternal bliss, and the sinful fall to Hades where they may repent. That they're continuing on like this, and so many good people are suffering... I can't reconcile it.
[ SOMETIMES YOU DECIDE TO COMMIT TO THE BIT AND MAKE A MAN OVER 6' picks lucas up
steady as stone, like always, zhongli accepts the slight weight that lucas gives him, sighing softly in understanding. yves has a way of making you care for him so easily - but, also, worry about him. he can only imagine how his teacher might be feeling about it right now. ]
He did, and I will be grateful for it - as I am sure you are, beyond belief. But that we are forced into such powerlessness in the face of our loved ones and companions being put on the chopping block...
[ it is a piece of hell, isn't it? teyvat doesn't have the same concept of it as many others do, but he thinks of the abyss, of the tortures that people have suffered because of it. so many come back from mere contact with it forever changed.
he lets the quiet settle between them, but his own continues on a bit after lucas speaks up again. ]
They say that their God is not behind it. I want to believe the angels, as I believe in their efforts, at the very least, but the number of gods I have known that have lied to even their followers and believers is not small. To create a Heaven that is so at odds with the concept and beliefs - overall, I've found, amongst those that believe in the esse of Heaven like yourself - and that has allowed an interloper to interfere with something meant for redemption and freedom... I have questions, and anger on behalf of God's believers.
His teacher is feeling fckin tired, but at least he is, as always, pretty emotionally level about it. Life's tiring in general and one must just simply carry on!!
There's just a little hum over that, though; over the notion of powerlessness and the way they all struggle with it. It really is hellish. But he'll listen as Zhongli speaks, nodding along in a slow and thoughtful way.]
...Their god has been kind to me. [He is truly so moved by one small gesture weeks ago.] And I trust in the Angels, so I have faith in their god as well. I imagine this is just as frustrating to them. Even moreso, given their omnipresence. Being able to see so much, and having to oversee all of Heaven and the countless souls that reside here, but still struggling to find the source of this disturbance... It must be difficult.
[He has questions, sure enough, but they really take a backseat to the fact that he's fully willing to believe this god is also working as hard as the Angels, if not harder.]

when he answers, zhongli does look at him with sympathy and understanding. ]
Relief doesn't have much room to grow, I suspect. [ for his troublesome student to be cleared but for another companion to be guilty. ] ...
I worry about what will happen, should this continue as it has. As we grow closer to one another and our bonds strengthen through this adversity.
