[ hello!!! out in the gazebo area, zhongli can find taair, who is no longer sexy, sitting in the grass. he's got a big red book open in his lap, and appears to be writing something down in it, lifting his head every now and then to just inhale and enjoy his surroundings, and then resume writing.
and!! if he doesn't immediately come run over, he might hear him murmuring quietly to.... someone? something? loud enough to be heard, though. ]
This is very nice, isn't it? It was beginning to feel as claustrophobic as before, but - it's already gotten a bit better, hasn't it, my friend...?
[ it's so funny to look at his full art because his shoulders look deceptively big due to all his fabric and shit. then you look down and see how scrawny he is. love you taair.
zhongli is also, gladly, no longer sexy. he has his gift box under his arm, polearm carried in his other hand with the point down, a leisurely stroll taking him through the gazebo area. but he pauses and perks at the voice, following it and... oh.
It is. A far cry from the formless glass and fog, odd as many things are. [ he does look off towards the far distance where the train station is, speaking of fog, but he'll come closer to taair after that. ]
[ he eases himself to sit down near him, setting his gift box - with egg nestled in a golden scarf, along with extra padding of various cloths probably from the clothing store - and the spear on the ground beside himself. ]
There are bright sides to this situation, all things considered. To meet so many people, hear their tales, know them... it is a gift, in some ways.
[ seated neatly on his knees, hands folding in his lap as he considers that. ]
Mm, the question then becomes where you would like to begin, or if there is something in particular you'd like to know. Liyue is quite a colorful nation, filled with colorful tales and history alike.
[ he falls silent, looking off into the distance, seemingly lost in thought as he considers this. a slow blink, and then - ]
Perhaps the Guili Assembly, then. Liyue - whether by this name or not - has existed for thousands and thousands of years, now, and has seen countless years of both war and peacetime. It has changed immeasurably, though its lifeblood is still the same as ever. But the true beginning of its history comes with the creation of the Guili Assembly.
Almost five thousand years ago, the God of Contracts, the Geo Archon, descended upon the lands that would become Liyue. He has been known by innumerable names. Rex Lapis or Yanwang Dijun are what his people call him, even to this day, as a sign of respect; but Morax is his true, godly name.
In this time, the continent of Teyvat was rife with monsters and strife. Seeking to bring order to his region, and safety to the people, Morax began by raising the mountain range that would someday become known as Mt. Tainheng. With this protection offered to the inland, he soon turned to the seas that washed ashore dangerous beasts from their depths, tides threatening to overtake and flood the earth. He would have to lower the tide, pacify the seas, and defeat the sea monsters that invaded homes and wilds alike.
[ let me just say he is listening to this with RAPT attention. like, full chinhands, clearly hanging on every single word. stories of gods - this reads a bit like scripture, like the mythos of the radiant from many eons ago. ]
He was. Although, to bring some humor to this tale... he had to travel from home to home for the smaller threats that plagued his people, because his power was mighty and indelicate. To strike down the great monster Baqiu was as easy as bringing down great stone spears - but to eliminate these, he would have to do so by hand. It was rumored to cause him to grow a distaste for sea creatures, despite them being a delicacy when not so beastly, but it was well worth it, in the end.
[ he tilts his head slightly, still looking out. ]
But this was not the true creation of the Assembly. No, another god would befriend the Geo Archon - the God of Dust, Guizhong. She was the wit to his brawn, gentle and kind-hearted, guiding her people north of the mountain range to bring them to safety in such trying times. She was a builder, a creator, lovely as the Glaze Lilies that bloomed across all of Liyue in those days, wild and free. It softened the hard stone that made up the Geo Archon.
[ what better way to get a high vantage point over the place where charlie was found dead than to go up to the lighthouse observatory?
as zhongli ascends the steps, he pauses when he notices that there's someone else there - his grip flexes on his polearm, more tightly held than it has been the entire rest of the week - before it relaxes, just so, upon seeing that it's taair rather than someone else. ]
Taair, my friend. You're alright. [ physically, at least. there's a touch of quiet relief, behind the furrow of his brow and the tightness in his jaw. ]
[ taair's out here indeed! he's leaning on the railing of the lighthouse, looking out at the water and the beach below - so completely lost in thought he didn't even realize zhongli came until he said something.
he looks back, and manages a soft, half smile even in the circumstances. ]
...yes. [ yes, he's alright. ] Though I wish that I could say the same for all of our dear friends.
I'm struggling to wrap my head around the events that could have occurred.
[ a sigh through his nose is his only answer, at first, as he comes to stand close to him. his eyes scan across the horizon, before sweeping down, down, trying to get a look at the beach for anything they must have missed. ]
... as do I. As am I. [ with a deep breath to follow his sigh. ] Even starting at the beginning, I don't recall how we fell asleep. How could we have slept through anything happening on the beach?
Between the strange walls and the sleep, I'm beginning to think it was some sort of spell.
[ but their magic is inaccessible, so... from where. ] And... if anything happened, should we not have awoken to it first thing? The beach is pristine, too.
I was considering the same. Barriers are not unfamiliar to me, even unseen ones, but it takes quite a bit to render nearly forty people unconscious after trapping them where they stood.
[ so. is it a heavenly power in place? or something else? ] Mm, I'd hoped to perhaps see if there was something missed from here. But I see that it's the same as before we even found ourselves trapped.
[ i lied about the void, taair is actually... in the garden! he's sitting on a blanket, looking up at the stars.
also there's a seagull in his lap. please don't ask. or do. it's chillin. he looks up when he hears zhongli, though, and gives him a soft, tired smile. ]
It's restorative, to sit out here. Isn't it? Hello, Zhongli.
[ he doesn't seem to outright question this, and instead comes to join him. it's nice - that the two of them can simply be taair and zhongli, rather than any other names, whether he knows it or not. so he folds gracefully down, chin lifting to look up at the stars himself. ]
It is. With the blanket of unfamiliar stars, the fresh air, the serenity... one could almost forget, as it washes over you. [ but only almost. ]
[ he says with a bit of a wry smile, looking down at the seagull - it lifts its head briefly to regard zhongli and then decides this is acceptable, laying back down. ]
...I'd have to agree. [ you could almost forget. almost. ] Though perhaps that is merely the whirlwind of events that led to this point that makes it feel so far away. As if it occurred minutes ago, and hours ago.
[ rather than, you know. dismissing the seagull as just a set piece. he'll let the seagull enjoy its snooze. ]
The blink of an eye, yet such a distant, fleeting sensation. [ agreeing, lightly, as he continues to look upwards. ] Perhaps something of an eye of the storm - we have made it through to the center, now, where all is calm and quiet.
anyway. he listens to this - taair likes the way zhongli talks, as ancient and wise as you might expect from a god- and then nods. ]
That's an apt descriptor. [ the eye of the storm, huh. ] ...we still have yet to know what 'expulsion' truly means. Though... I have a guess, and it is not a pleasant one.
[ he... hesitates, a moment, but taair is no child. ]
I have my own suspicions, as well. Were it simply exile, I would have fewer concerns - but to say expulsion, it does not tell us what actions are being taken.
[ i don't know what you expect out of taair because he is, of course, in the library. actaully, he is standing on his tippy tip tip toes, struggling to reach a book - balanced out only by a pair of fluffy blue wings on his back spread to their maximum wingspan, as he is trying very hard to reach a book on a very high shelf.
he's in a section that appears to be full of history books! there's also a cart parked next to where he is standing, and it is stacked with books, and zhongli might hear a sound - ]
♪
[ a single, very excited bird cheep. ]

Taair? [ as he comes in and spots what he's doing, he does try to gently announce himself without startling him, considering he's clearly in his own world at the moment. but this is such a wonderful place to be in one's own world - zhongli takes in the books upon books, stacked within the veritable ribcage that the shelves make of the library.
so much knowledge, all in one place. all for them to enjoy. his long dragon tail gives a content flick. ] I feel that we'll find you here every single day for the next seven weeks.
